Importance of skin cleansing
If you are reading
this blog, you may already know that we need to remove surface oil and dirt from
face twice a day by washing with mild soap and water or with a mild, medicated
cleanser. When makeup is used, makeup removers should be used cleanse skin
before using a mild soap and water. At times, dirt and excess sebum not
cleansed away lead to clogged pores and the formation of comedones (blackheads
and whiteheads), or the appearance of pimples in some of us. For those with
active oil glands especially over the T-zone, morning cleansing is as important
as cleansing before bedtime. This is what happens when I skip the morning
cleansing for a period of time.
But do you know that
proper cleansing includes working the cleanser on moistened skin for at least one
minute? But how many of us actually do that? When skin is cleansed for one
minute, it allows our skin to be cleansed more deeply as dirt and oil is lifted
to the surface of our skin for removal.
The Need to Exfoliate
Do you know that our
skin constantly renews itself, forming new cells in the lower layer of skin,
which slowly move up the skin as they mature to show up on skin surface as dead
skin cells? To remove dead skin cells that clog skin pores, and leave skin
dull, rough and sometimes scaly, exfoliate weekly. Avoid over-exfoliating as it
may sensitise skin. Use only gentle exfoliators and if you must use stronger
exfoliators, reserve it for weekly exfoliation.
